It’s a NEW year, so DREAM BIG

Happy 2018 friends!
I’m sure many of you are thinking on what goals or resolutions you would like to set for this year and that’s great! I don’t actually set resolutions…I feel like so many times they are broken quickly. Would I like to lose a few pounds, eat healthier, meditate more, do more yoga, have more family time…of course! But I feel like for me, these should be lifestyle choices all of the time, not just once a year. Everyone’s approach is different. While meditating this morning, an overall theme came to me that I would like to focus on or continue to focus on. It’s something that my husband and I have actually made a practice when we have made decisions over our 17 years of marriage. I guess it’s become our “way” of doing things. One of my dearest friends and her family stayed at our house this weekend (good friends are such a blessing in life), and we had a great discussion on…everything! She said something that really got me thinking. She said, “I admire the way you envision something and you go for it.”
I hadn’t really thought about this. I guess I’ve taken the approach especially in recent years that when I stop and focus and let dreams come for myself and my family, I figure out a way to make them happen. Sometimes they are small ideas, sometimes they are pretty huge. My husband definitely has this approach also. We are not ones to conform to what people might think is “normal.” For instance, the way we made the decision to move to Sauk Centre (which was a pretty huge decision). Bryan had a dream of starting his own newspaper for amateur baseball in Minnesota. We wanted to live in a central location in Minnesota so he could cover all areas in the state. So we typed in Central MN and a price range for a house…Sauk Centre popped up. We had never heard of the town. We took a chance, looked at a few houses, packed up and moved to town to follow Bryan’s dream. I still don’t even know how we got approved for the loan:) That decision 14 years ago set a pattern for making decisions in our families’ life. We have taken many risks and done things slightly out of the ordinary. Are they scary? Some are … Yes! Our oldest child, a very reasonable and practical young man once said to Bryan and I…I feel like so many times I am the voice of reason in this family. This was when he was about 12 years old. I feel like in not so many words he was saying…what are you guys doing now!?!…you are such Dreamers!!! But I want our kids to see that you can go against the norm if that is what you are being called to do. Dream big! Go for what you want! It’s not the easy way. It forces you to be creative. It will not fall in your lap….you have to go out and grab it and work hard! I read a quote once about how we aren’t created to settle or stay still just because it’s comfortable. We are given dreams and visions that push us past our comfort zone. The things that scare us in life are the things that direct us to greatness. But it is our decision to act on them or not. It’s up to us to make things happen. Will we fail along the way? Absolutely! But that is part of the journey. It’s the bumps, the twists and turns in life that are the teachable moments and push us farther along than maybe we want to be pushed. So I want to make sure I continue to dream big and make things happen and trust the process. God gives us these dreams for a purpose. We are to follow our heart as well as the logical. Mix the creative and intuition with the smarts.
It’s going to be a great year friends, because YOU will make it great!
Good for you!
